I have a computer. I have a drive in it. I have windows installed. I have additional software through their Microsoft HUP program. I paid for that. I build a separate computer fro the kids for school work, etc. I fire it up. I install windows. And because were on the same home network, MS thinks that is also the same computer. It keeps changing the home wallpaper. I never got a chance to put in the windows key because it was already activated from moment one and I thought I’d see where this goes.
Well, now it thinks Microsoft Word is part of their subscription products, I have no idea why since my installation was fully legitimate, to begin with.
How does one household of multiple computers keep MS from assuming things and changing things under your nose? I’m a hardware guy, not a software guy. All of the secret right click windows to change things are just that, secret. Whats one to do.

Wish I could help but I got nothing. Windows 10 was a PITA to activate for me too.

Did you log into it with the same MS account as your other workstation? This is why I still use a local account.

Are you using the same MS account on both computers? For some reason, settings synchronisation defaults to on, which gave me plenty of frustration when switching between my QWERTY desktop and AZERTY laptop : https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4026102/windows-10-about-sync-settings

i put a new drive in the old parts in an older case and that was it. installed MS and poof....it thought it was me. my new box was built up with my old drive and i logged on as my old self like always. but then MS immediately screwed things up.and I can’t use some of my software, it thinks i need to pay for it....i already did!

MS licenses can be tied to hardware. Might be a culprit

Not to sound critical, but I do computer repairs for a living and
so install Windows a zillion times a month from scratch
and I’ve never heard of this happening...if this was a fresh install of Windows, are you sure you didn’t sign into the same Microsoft account your other machine is signed into? That’s the only way I can think of that would make your description seem possible?
Windows 10 will come with an installer for Office 365 installed, which is their subscription Office suite. I would try uninstalling that (and, indeed, any mention of Office in the Control Panel)
and then reinstalling whatever version of Office you were trying to put on....or just go with LibreOffice, as it’s free and is Microsoft compatible.
I’ve never had any of the Windows machines I reformat or build ever do something simply by being on the same internal network...and there are 2 of our own
Win10 machines on ours, plus several Linux machines.
The only time Windows 10 should auto-activate a license key without asking you to enter one is if the motherboard already had a Win8 or Win10 key embedded in the BIOS (i.e. a store bought machine....HP, Acer, etc), or if you signed in with a Microsoft Account that had a license key digitally associated with it and that copy of Windows somehow assigned itself that license key.

This.
Windows 10 defaults to using Microsoft.com accounts, and will replicate desktop settings across computers.

I honestly ignore microsoft account stuff. I can say I did not sign into my microsoft account on this new machine with some old parts. It just assumed the identity.
Ultimately I would like to just tell it i have a new key and wish to use that instead of what it has now. keep the kids machine the way it is.

Do a fresh install without allowing internet access or providing an account during setup.
Load Windows and let it sit 10 minutes!
Run this ( https://github.com/builtbybel/spydish/releases ) without erasing the Windows store!
Run this ( https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10/update ) and turn everything off!
Give it internet and see if your problem persists.

Forgot, go into system>settings>about and scroll down to the “Change product key or upgrade your edition of windows” option.
Input the correct registration code.
